Fibre
The alpacas are responsibly farmed in the Peruvian highlands, where the yarn is also spun and dyed. Thanks to their soft hooves and gentle feeding habits, alpacas have a light impact on the land on which they graze. Our wool fibres come from Argentina and Uruguay and are mulesing-free. Our cotton is grown in Peru. To ensure the structural stability and durability of the yarn, a polyamide fibre is used. We aim to avoid synthetic fibres in our collections, but here it gives the alpaca yarn structural stability for the best possible quality.
Fabric
Our favourite baby alpaca and wool blend yarn is wonderfully soft, lightweight and warm. Knitted together with fine cotton thread, it balances the airy lightness of alpaca with the natural weight of cotton, creating a beautifully defined stitch structure. The fibres are 'top' dyed before being spun into yarn. This process results in beautiful melange colours and a softer hand feel. Each panel is knitted to the shape of the garment which therefore creates less wastage. Panels and trims are attached using a hand-linking machine, resulting in a premium, high-quality garment.
Factory
One of our newest knitwear suppliers is located in Peru. We chose to work with them because of their excellent skills, drawn from centuries of tradition using materials such as alpaca, cotton and wool, all of which are available locally.
