Fibre
The alpacas are responsibly farmed in the Peruvian highlands, where the spinning and dyeing of the yarn also occurs. Alpacas' impact is light on the land they graze which makes them one of the most environmentally friendly animals. To ensure the structural stability and durability of the yarn, a polyamide fibre is used. We aim to avoid synthetic fibres in our collections, but include it on this occasion to make sure our garments last without compromising the unique boucle texture.
Our organic cotton is grown in India, solely on organic farms that take care of the soil, ecosystem and people by relying on biodiversity and local natural cycles. Organic cotton is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) from the organic fibre source to the spinning of the yarn. GOTS is the leading standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria and is backed by independent third-party certification. We are working on extending the certification to cover the entire textile supply chain.
Fabric
Our alpaca bouclé yarn creates warm and playful knitted garments. Bouclé means that the yarn is made from looped fibre along the thread and when knitted it creates a lovely curly texture. It not only looks great, but also makes additional air pockets for extra warmth. The combination of organic cotton and alpaca fibre results in cosy knitwear that has the drape of cotton with the warmth of alpaca. The fibres are 'top' dyed before being spun into yarn. This process results in beautiful melange colours and a softer hand feel. Each panel is knitted to the shape of the garment which therefore creates less wastage. Panels and trims are attached using a hand-linking machine, resulting in a premium, high-quality garment.
Factory
The knits are produced in close collaboration with one of our longest standing suppliers, a small knitter based in Dongguan, China. We have enjoyed working with owner Robert and his dedicated team, Ceci and Carmen, for over 20 years. Their knowledge, experience and attention to detail is second to none. We are proud to have them as part of our team.
